Niki Sharma, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development & Non-Profits

We are happy to announce  Parliamentary Secretary Niki Sharma  will be a special guest at this year's conference. PS Sharma was elected MLA for Vancouver–Hastings in 2020 and is the Deputy Caucus Chair and Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development and Non-Profits.

She is also a member of the Treasury Board. Niki is a lawyer whose practice focused on representing Indigenous people, including residential school survivors. Niki has worked throughout B.C. as an advocate on climate policy and reconciliation. She has also been recognized for her work on combating racism.

Niki was elected to the Board of Vancity Credit Union, where she served as Vice-Chair and chaired the Climate Justice Working Group. She also served as Chair of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation. In these roles, she worked to improve her community and make life better for people and our planet.

In 2017, Niki worked as a Senior Ministerial Assistant helping to deliver more childcare spaces for B.C. families.

And That's A Wrap..

Volunteer BC completed the Volunteer Management Training Series in partnership with the Federation of Community Social Services of BC. From Risk Management, Culturally Welcoming Volunteers to Managing Volunteers During the Pandemic & Beyond - these sessions helped organizations plan their volunteer programs to meet new and emerging community needs. This series of subsidized training workshops and webinars is supported by funding from the Community Social Services Training Fund.

Stay tuned for upcoming training opportunities.

New Fundraising Idea - Move Over, Craigslist

New Fundraising Idea - Move Over, Craigslist

Our friends at Richmond Care, Richmond Gives (RCRG) have launched a new program to help organizations raise funds. What do the dusty exercise bike in your basement and the dress in your closet (that you haven’t worn in years) have in common? They can both become cash donations to GiveShop – a new and innovative online marketplace that allows users to donate or purchase gently used items, with the sale proceeds benefiting RCRG.

Donors also receive a tax receipt for all items sold on the GiveShop marketplace!

Broadening GiveShop's Reach

It's important to note that GiveShop is new to the Vancouver region, and its presence will grow over the coming weeks and months. RCRG is one of the first organizations to give it a try.

If your organization would like to set up its own GiveShop marketplace, contact 1-800-448-0972  or email
